I have had the pleasure of witnessing a new vibe in the sound of Jazz. Brandon Coleman, Kamasi Washington, Ronald AND Steven Bruner, Cameron Graves, Ryan Porter, Robert Miller, etc.... One night, at The World Stage in Leimert Park California, I was introduced to a young 1970's mop haired skinny kid sitting in with Kamasi's band. He flooded into his runs the way a kid usually does. Playing everything at once. And then what I noticed was his consistency...he was brilliant. Over and over again...at such a young age (18). One of those musical spirits who couldn't wait to be heard. And he was. Rest In Peace Austin Peralta.
